At Maid to Clean, our goal is to attract the best, so we can be the best. We receive thousands of applications every month and we hire the top 1% of applicants. We currently work with over 250 of the best cleaners in Melbourne. Every single person we hire goes through our rigorous recruitment process to guarantee they meet our (very) high standards! All candidates must have previous professional cleaning experience and pass a strict, multi-step selection process to ensure they are the right fit for our team.
Screening
We conduct thorough background checks on all candidates, requiring a valid police check and insurance to ensure the safety and security of our customers and their properties. Candidates are first screened to ensure they meet the basic requirements to work with Maid to Clean.
First Stage Interview
Most candidates start with a simple phone interview, where we get a feel for why the candidate wants to work with Maid to Clean, their experience, and if they will be a good fit with the team.
Second Stage Interview
Successful candidates are then invited to a second stage interview, preferably at our office, however sometimes over Zoom/Teams if needed. In this interview we dive deeper in to the candidates experience and assess if they have the skills and drive to work with Maid to Clean. A standardised interview scoring sheet is used to ensure consistency, and the candidates are scored based on their punctuality, experience, cleaning methods, finishing touches, safety methods, language, communication, overall attitude.
Assessment Workshop
Candidates are then progressed to a half day, cleaning Workshop, run by a highly experience Quality Agent. The prospective candidates are given an opportunity to showcase their skills and expertise. Candidates are scored using a standardised workshop scoring sheet (similar to the interview) to ensure consistency. Candidates are assessed on punctuality, speed, finishing touches, attention to detail, communication, comprehension and overall attitude. Candidates are also taught about Maid to Clean’s high standards, services and trademark finishing touches.
Analysis and Variable Benchmarking
The candidates are then assessed and a decision made on if they are successful. We consider their interview score, their workshop score, and also the needs of the business. Our Scheduling team updates our Recruitment team on a weekly basis, providing areas of high demand and low demand. In areas of low demand, we implement a higher benchmark score for new candidates, limiting Recruitment, but also ensuring that we still allow in the very best candidates. Similarly, in areas of high demand, we slightly lower the benchmark, ensuring we can meet demand while maitaining our high standards.
Orientation
Successful candidates then attend an orientation at our office, where they are introduced to our policies, procedures, standards, and operations. Before their first day, we follow up to confirm work preferences, availability, service areas, and readiness to begin.
Settling In Period
During their first six weeks, all new cleaners receive extended support. We closely monitor key metrics like work quality, reliability, and conduct. If any challenges arise, we offer guidance and resources, including mentoring from more experienced cleaners, sessions with our Cleaning Quality Agents, meetings with management, and additional workshops.
Working with Maid to Clean
Our cleaners arrive prepared with equipment approved by our Cleaning Quality Agent and all necessary materials to deliver outstanding service. This includes cleaning checklists, priority lists, a handbook with chemical recommendations, and a mobile app where they can access their schedules, service details, and log attendance.
We care about creating a positive and supportive environment where everyone feels included. It has always been the passion of the Owner, Edward, that to get the best out of people, they need to feel happy and supported. We therefore aim to provide the best possible working environment to our team, to in turn, provide the best service. Throughout the year, we organize team events that give us the chance to connect, share experiences, and enjoy time together. We also stay in touch through social platforms where we celebrate milestones, share moments from the job, and acknowledge anniversaries with thoughtful gifts.
